Watermelon Juice Recipe
Updated: October 9, 2026, By Swasthi Shreekanth
My homemade Watermelon Juice is refreshing, naturally sweet and satisfying. You can make this drink in 5 different combinations with my easy recipe. It is a perfect beverage to enjoy on a hot day, after a workout, or any time you want to refresh yourself. With its high water content, watermelon is a perfect fruit for juicing.
About Watermelon Juice
In this post I share watermelon juice recipes in 5 refreshing flavors. I have the plain classic version with lemon juice, watermelon mint cooler, watermelon orange mix juice, watemelon and strawberry, lastly watermelon & aloevera mint cooler.
All these are tested to perfection with accurate quantities and will give you delicious drinks. Some of these use herbs like fresh mint leaves, or spices like black pepper & ginger for heat and chaat masala for a fruity tangy Indian flavor. Feel free to use what you actually like.

Do you really need a slow juicer for this? If you have one please use it. It is believed that slow juicers retain more nutrients in the juice since they do not produce as much heat as a fast juicer. But if you do not have, a regular home blender works great.

How to choose a Watermelon
- Choose a watermelon that feels heavy for its size. This is an indication that it is going to be very juicy when you cut it. Secondly, check out the color of the underside of the watermelon. It should have a yellow spot where it rested in the field. This is an indication of how ripe it is.
- Avoid a watermelon that has a white field spot as this indicates insufficient ripening in the field and it won’t tatse sweet.
- Third, a ripe watermelon should have a deep sound when you hit it with your hand. If the watermelon has a hollow or flat sound when tapped, it’s likely overripe and is best to avoid.
- Finally, choose a watermelon that has a uniform shape and has a firm feel. It should not yield to pressure or scratch easily which is an indication that it may be overripe.

Deseed Watermelon easily (stepwise photos)
I found 2 easy ways to cut a watermelon. The first method I have shown below in the step wise pictures is also the most efficient way to deseed the watermelon. The second method is good for seedless watermelon.
1. Rinse watermelon under running water and pat dry or air dry. Cut the watermelon to 2 parts. You can also chill the whole melon if you prefer chilled juice.

2. Then cut each part to 4 quarters.

3. Slice each quarter to 2, again roughly running through the lines on the watermelon.

4. Scoop out the seeds gently with a knife.

5. Mine had a lot of seeds, so I had to slice them further and then deseed.

6. You can easily cut the flesh from the rind. If you prefer cold juice, put the cut watermelon in the freezer for 30 mins or in the fridge until chilled.

How to make Watermelon Juice (classic)
7. Rinse and wipe dry the lemon & cut to 2 parts. If you want plain watermelon juice, simply chill the fruit and blend with some lemon juice. To make the watermelon mint cooler, peel a small piece of ginger if you want to use it. Clean 8 mint leaves as well.

8. Add all of them to the blender jar along with any sweetener if you prefer. We don’t add any sweetener or ice cubes or water. Some blenders can’t blend without any liquid. In that case start with only a handful of watermelon cubes and blend first or pour half cup chilled water. Then add the rest later.

9. Blend it until smooth & frothy.

Pour watermelon juice to serving glasses and top with black pepper or chaat masala if you prefer. If you have excess watermelon juice, pour it to freezer safe cups or popsicle moulds or ice trays and freeze it.

Watermelon Orange Juice
Watermelon with any citrus fruits pair well. The Sweetness in the watermelon balances the tang from the citrus fruits. There are 2 ways you can use oranges in this recipe. You can cut the oranges and extract the juice in a citrus juicer (manual or electric). The other option is to peel the oranges, remove the pith completely and blend with the watermelons.

Here I went ahead juicing them in the electric citrus juicer. Made the watermelon juice separately. If you have a family with different choices this helps as you can make different combinations.

Pour orange juice into the serving glass and top with watermelon juice. We personally prefer 1 part orange juice and 2 parts watermelon juice. You can use however you like. Sprinkle Chaat Masala if you prefer.

Watermelon & Strawberry Juice
For this combination you will use 3 parts watermelon, 1 part strawberries & 1 part Ice cubes. Since strawberries are a pulpy fruit, they require some liquid to blend. Ice keeps the watermelon juice cold and won’t rise the temperature of the juice. If you want you may add some lemon juice depending on how sweet your strawberries taste.

I love the crunchy strawberry seeds so I don’t prefer to strain the juice. If you want you may. This juice is on the thicker side, so you may add some ice cubes but that is going to dilute the flavors.

Watermelon Juice Recipe
Ingredients
- 5 cups watermelon cubes, deseeded & chilled
- 2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice (adjust to taste)
- 5 cups watermelon cubed, deseeded & chilled
- 8 to 10 mint leaves (young leaves, no stalks)
- ½ inch ginger (optional)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice (or limejuice or ¼ cup calamansi juice)
- ¼ teaspoon pink salt , rock salt or black salt
- 4 cups Watermelon cubed
- 2 to 3 Oranges (or ½ cup orange juice)
- 3 to 3½ cups Watermelon cubes, deseeded
- 1 cup strawberries (chopped, 8 large or 12 medium or ½ cup puree)
- 1 cup ice cubes (6 to 8, 30 ml cubes)
- 5 cups Watermelon chilled, deseeded
- 2 inch Aloe vera gel (or 2 servings of store bought gel)
- 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves (optional)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (or limejuice or ¼ cup calamansi juice)
- 2 pinches ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds (or sweet basil seeds – sabja, soaked for 30 mins)
- ¼ teaspoon chaat masala
Method
- Rinse watermelon under running water. Pat dry with kitchen tissues or air dry it for a while.
- To start with cut the watermelon in the center, to 2 parts. Invert the cutside of the watermelon on to the chopping board, so it rests without rolling around. Then quarter each part, following the lines on the watermelon.
- Slice each quarter further to 2 to 3 parts (lengthwise) to help deseed watermelon easily. Using a small knife, gently remove the seeds following the line. Tender white seeds are okay to be used.
- Chop the watermelon pulp from the rind. To avoid ice cubes, you can chill the watermelon before juicing.
- Add the ingredients to a blender jar and blend till smooth & frothy. If you do not have a powerful blender, then start with just a handful of watermelon cubes and then add the rest later. Or pour half cup chilled water and blend.
- If using soaked chia or sabja seeds, add them to your serving glass. Then pour the watermelon juice & top with black pepper or chaat masala. Serve it immediately.
- Without Strainer: Juice the cut oranges in a electric or manual squeezer/juicer. Blend the watemelon until smooth and frothy in a blender. Pour the required amount of orange juice to the serving glasses and top with watermelon juice.
- Strained Juice: Peel the oranges and remove the pith, seperate the segments and deseed them. You may check this orange juice post for easy way to deseed oranges. Add the watermelons to a blender and oranges. Blend until smooth. Pass the juice through a strainer if you want.
- Use a smoothie strainer to retain most of the pulp in your watermelon juice. All of the 5 versions work well in a cold press juicer. For the strawberry version use about ¼ cup water instead of ice.
Notes
- It is important to chill the watermelon before blending because we don’t want to bring up the temperature of the fruit.

Hi,
You are welcome! Glad you both liked it. Thank you so much!
This is delicious! I added a small amount of ginger, 2 mint leaves, water, 1/2 a lime in the blender. I froze the watermelon first so I didn’t need any ice cubes. It tasted perfect. I will definitely make this again!
Thanks Ang.
Might try and make this over the weekend. Can you tell me when to add mint leaves in process or is it a decorative item? I grow mint in my backyard and love trying new ways to use it! Can’t wait!
